A Chinese national was sentenced to seven months' jail in Singapore for retrieving stolen goods, including a luxury handbag, for a criminal syndicate.

A Chinese national, Wu Jinxing, 28, was offered a 30,000 yuan (S$5,600) reward to retrieve nearly $500,000 in cash and valuables stolen by two burglars in Singapore . Wu Jinxing, a food deliveryman who earned around 200 yuan a day, accepted the offer and arrived in Singapore on July 27. He retrieved an orange Hermes Birkin bag worth around $45,000 containing some of the loot from a forested area near Buona Vista MRT station.

On December 16, Wu Jinxing was sentenced to seven months' jail after pleading guilty to one count of handling the benefits of criminal conduct. The two burglars, Wu Jianxin, 30, and Huang Ziqian, 35, are still at large. According to documents, the pair broke into a house in July to steal the Birkin bag, cash in different currencies, and three luxury watches, each worth up to $165,000. They also targeted other houses, stealing jewellery, cash, and 12 more Hermes bags. The court heard that Wu Jianxin and Wu Jinxing have known each other for 12 years. Wu Jianxin contacted Wu Jinxing on July 27 at 2.30 am, asking him to fly to Singapore for a one-day trip to collect a bag and a watch. Wu Jianxin offered 30,000 yuan as a reward and promised to cover Wu Jinxing's travel expenses. Despite knowing it involved illegal activities, Wu Jinxing agreed and arrived in Singapore around noon, taking a train to Buona Vista MRT station as instructed.
