CHP officer shoots, kills dog at homeless camp in Escondido [Breaking]
A California Highway Patrol officer shot and killed a dog at a homeless camp in Escondido Monday, according to officials.
The shooting was reported at 12:35 p.m. in an area on state property east of Interstate 15 near El Norte Parkway, CHP Officer Hunter Gerber said. Gerber said the officer was at the camp to notify people living there that Caltrans would clear the area starting 72-hours from the notification. He said the dog came out of a tent and bit the officer on the left foot and knee, Gerber said.The officer suffered minor injuries, Gerber said.
