Benardout was just 24 years old, and was close to releasing a new EP, having just been offered a record deal at the time his life was cut short. "Noah personified ambition and discipline in a world where dreams are seldom realized, and reality drains the soul," the Benardout Family said in a press release. "Every living moment since this tragedy has been unthinkable, unbearable and unspeakable.
"Chris personally responded to me within hours, crestfallen by the news," he added. "His sincere compassion regarding Noah’s passing was a moment of light in this darkness, and his commitment to perform at our event is beyond touching. We are forever grateful to Coldplay and to all of our incredible performers for giving us the strength to keep going."
In the United States, nearly 30 people die in drunk-driving crashes per day, or one person every 50 minutes, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Drunk-driving crashes claim more than 10,000 lives per year. With the assistance of the Mothers Against Drunk Driving California chapter, along with the Los Angeles Distrcit Attorney's office, the LOVR Benefit marks the first time that all three of California's major law enforcement departments -- Los Angeles Police Department, California Highway Patrol and the Los Angeles County Sherrif's Department -- will come together to advocate for an end to DUI tragedies, hosting activations at the benefit including a DUI simulator.
In the future, the foundation plans to organize other music-themed benefits to raise awareness of the U.S. drunk-driving epidemic, as well as launch an educational platform aimed at young drivers.
