Christie’s is also betting on breaking the auction record for the sale of a Vincent Van Gogh painting in Asia with the French painter’s Les Canots Amarres . The 257-year-old auction house’s expansion in Hong Kong comes at a time when its rivals Phillips, Sotheby’s and Bonhams have expanded their footprint and opened new headquarters in the city over the past two years., the city’s zero tax on art and proximity to mainland Chinese collectors have continued to make it an attractive art market in Asia.
