It will be the second time a tree from Evergreen Acres Tree Farm will adorn the Blue Room at Christmastime.
Almost two decades ago, master Christmas tree grower Paul Alan Shealer saw something in a tiny concolor fir tree budding in a field at Evergreen Acres Tree Farm.
On Oct. 10, almost as if in a fairy tale, the dream came true when Washington officials selected the magnificent concolor fir as the Christmas tree for the Blue Room. On Thursday, wrapped in a protective covering to avoid wind damage, the 1-ton, 12-foot-wide tree will be delivered to the White House. “We never had one that had the girth and weight of this one,” said Shealer, noting that concolor firs have excessively heavy limbs that don’t bend easily.
In Washington, the Shealers will turn over the tree to White House officials. In traditional fashion, it will be delivered to the White House aboard a horse-drawn wagon, Sharon Shealer said.A chandelier in the Blue Room will be removed, and its electrical hookup will provide the power for the tree’s lights.
