To enhance the work she’s doing with her students, Meade recently secured a $3,600 grant from the Clear Creek ISD Education Foundation with which she plans to purchase a stationary bike and standing desks. Meade said that by first letting students work through tough emotions, she can get around to having what she calls “restorative conversations” with them.
“If we just punish the kids and then send them back to their environment, then we didn’t teach them anything or help them think of other solutions to regulate their emotions,” she said. “, we work with them to access their thinking brain, take a deep breath, reflect and self-regulate so they can stop their bodies from feeling that anxiety and they can make a better choice.”
