San Diego State and UC San Diego meet Tuesday at Triton Ballpark in first of four nonconference games between teams

The phrase “Trolley Dodger” was popularized more than a century ago to describe Brooklyn’s baseball team before the nickname was shortened simply to Dodgers.

The UC San Diego Blue Line trolley extension opened in November, with a route that extends throughout the UCSD campus. The elevated track makes its way beyond the outfield wall at Triton Ballpark. The trolley’s Green Line, which opened in 2005, includes a below-ground stop on the SDSU campus as well as a stop at the SDSU Mission Valley property that is the site of the new Snapdragon Stadium.

That’s easy enough for games at UCSD, with a with a stop just a block away from the ballpark. The trolley stop at SDSU is located about a 1/2 mile east of Tony Gwynn Stadium. The Aztecs loss all three games by a run, the first two contests on 3-2 and 8-7 scores. They fell short in the second game after rallying for five runs over the final two innings.

UC San Diego is still struggling mightily, watching its losing streak reach 10 games over the weekend with 8-7 and 3-2 losses to UConn. The teams meet again Monday to conclude the series. In Sunday’s win, Chase Meidroth was 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Teammate and Kevin Sim added his team-leading eighth homer in the game.Sea Lions update
