An incident occurred at the Hang Tuah LRT station on the Ampang and Sri Petaling lines in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday evening, July 1, at approximately 6:36 p.m. A commuter, dressed in a white T-shirt, fainted and fell onto the train tracks.
Bystanders on the platform witnessed the event, and video footage captured the individual sprawled on the rails. Auxiliary police officers stationed at the platform immediately responded. They rushed to the victim's aid and also cut power to the tracks to prevent any electrocution risk or train interference. The passenger was safely extracted from the track area and received initial medical treatment in the station's emergency room.
Public transport operator Rapid KL confirmed the incident in a Facebook statement posted around 8 p.m. The operator emphasized that passenger safety is a top priority. After performing safety checks, train services resumed normal operations at 6:52 p.m., just sixteen minutes after the incident. Rapid KL reminded commuters to always follow safety protocols within stations. This includes staying behind the yellow safety line and never entering the track area.
Additionally, commuters who feel unwell are advised to immediately seek assistance from station staff or auxiliary police officers. The quick response by the auxiliary police likely prevented a more serious outcome. The incident highlights the importance of vigilance and adherence to safety guidelines in high-traffic public transport environments. It also underscores the critical role of on-site personnel in emergency situations.
