Sweeping terraced lawns, “daylighting” waterways and lots and lots of glass are in UC Berkeley’s enormous blueprint for the future.

college. The re-envisioning is in response to the growing and changing needs of the University of California flagship. As the student body has expanded, the school recognized a need for more housing, dining, recreational facilities, academic buildings and public gathering spaces.

This is what the campus would look like without Evans Hall. The area would become an open space with terraced seating.Nearby, new bridges will be added to Faculty Glade and between Sproul Plaza and Wheeler Hall. Renderings show a wide, open walking path between Sproul and upper campus, eliminating what is today a small parking lot. Strawberry Creek would also be re-landscaped to make it less overgrown and secluded.

The current pathways near Faculty Glade are not wheelchair-accessible. This plan would replace the existing bridge with an accessible one.The biggest transformation for Strawberry Creek, the pretty brook that runs through the middle of the campus, will be outside the Valley Life Sciences Building. The plan would “daylight a portion” of the creek, essentially creating a larger, wider creekbed.
