Amy Kennedy points out that Instagram alone includes 90,000 pro-eating disorder accounts, with a reach of 20 million followers

Amy Kennedy, a mother of five and former teacher founded the co-Kennedy Forum, a mental health care advocacy organization, with her husband and former Congressman Patrick J. Kennedy. She urges Congress to move forward with bills that would help safeguard kids from the negative impacts of social media and hold social media giants accountable. My husband Patrick and I thought that by waiting to give our children phones, they would develop healthier habits to offset the potential for overuse.

As parents, we have so much to contend with — the weight of which can be incomprehensible at times. Nevertheless, we persevere in trying our best to create the safest possible environments for our kids. Through advocacy, activism, and community involvement, so many of us seek out solutions we know we can make a difference.
