The images of stranded passengers and piled-up luggage at airports across the country have flooded the news in the past couple of weeks. Southwest Airlines canceled over 15,700 flights since winter weather disrupted air travel on December 22. According to, “a breakdown of the airline’s old computer system used for crew scheduling that has turned otherwise challenging weather-fueled disruptions into what experts have called an ‘unprecedented’ airline meltdown.
