“Just about every source of income for our paper has been decimated,”He says there’s hope that the paper could hire everyone back if they can weather the storm, but adds, “To say this is a setback is an understatement. Not only do I feel awful for all my colleagues and friends that were laid off, but I fear for their safety and well-being.
“Alt-weeklies signify much more than the ability to say ‘f*ck’ in print,” Eil wrote, arguing that alt-weeklies are defined by more than edgy language. “In many cases, they’re an all-too-rare source of original investigative — or, at least, in-depth — reporting on a range of topics. On the culture side, each week brings a new barrage of listings, reviews, interviews, and profiles that sustain a lively community conversation about art and ideas.
