Coronavirus: 3 Chinese cities are now on lockdown and Beijing canceled Lunar New Year events to prevent the virus from spreading
: Three Chinese cities—Wuhan, Huanggang and Ezhou—are now on lockdown as authorities seek to contain a rapidly-spreading pneumonia-like virus, leaving some 20 million people stuck within the restricted zones.
Taiwan’s China Air suspended flights into Wuhan, while the city’s trains, subways, shuttle buses and ferries wereHuanggang, a city of more than 7 million people located 75km from Wuhan, has had its transport network suspended. Nearby Ezhou, with a population of 1 million, closed its railway station. The lockdown was imposed around a month after the first cases of the illness were reported, and comes just a days ahead of tens of millions of people traveling across China to spend the Lunar New Year holiday with family.
