Heading into the next-generation of home consoles with the PlayStation 5 and Microsoft's Xbox Series X in November, it appears the $70 price tag for big-budget games may become standard, up from the norm of $60 since 2005.
In August, Activision Blizzard revealed it would launch a"cross-gen edition" of its upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War for $69.99, a version that can be played on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and then upgraded to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X respectively at no additional cost.
Additionally, Take Two set the price for the next-gen version of NBA 2K21 at $69.99 as well, though its CEO cautioned on an earnings call that the price of a game will be evaluated on a"title-by-title basis."“I would just observe, there hasn’t been a frontline price increase for a very long time, although costs have increased significantly,” Zelnick said in August.
