“We expect to have fires in it by Wednesday. And that’ll let us get it back online before we see the really freezing temperatures.'
A man who goes by the name ‘Snipe’ tries to keep warm by the fire. Record low temperatures which reached the single digits hit the unsheltered population across San Antonio hard. Many like ‘Snipe’ decided to stay in their tents during the storm instead of going into emergency shelters.
“I’m not worried,” he said. ‘We’ve done so much work this year. We’ve upgraded our system, and everybody is focused.”The cold front is expected to arrive Thursday afternoon and bring winds of 25 to 30 miles per hour. On Friday morning, it’s expected to be about 17 degrees in San Antonio, with wind chill in the single digits, said Brian Alonzo, CPS Energy’s chief meteorologist.
And the freezing temperatures are unlikely to last nearly as long as they did during Winter Storm Uri, when it was below freezing in San Antonio for over four days. “As we monitor weather conditions, we want to assure Texans that the grid is resilient and reliable,” said Pablo Vegas, ERCOT’s recently hired president and CEO. “We will keep the public informed as weather conditions change throughout the coming week.”
ERCOT has also “really improved the manner in which they’re communicating with the public,” said Rudy Garza, CPS Energy’s CEO.Missed chance or good balance? Plan for CPS Energy’s future generation mix headed for board vote
