Meghan McCain and Khizr Kahn tearfully bond over Trump’s attacks on their familiesKhizr Khan, the father of fallen Army Captain Humayun Khan, was on The View Monday where he shared an emotional moment with co-host Meghan McCain. \n\nAfter appearing in support of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at the 2016 Democratic National Convention, Khan and his family were the subject of verbal attacks from Donald Trump and his supporters — much like the treatment McCain and her family have recently been subjected to. \n\n“I am honored to sit under your grace, under your dignity,” Khan said, bringing McCain to tears. “Under the grace of Senator McCain’s family. Our hero, hero of this nation. How dare this Russian-tainted president disrespect our hero.”\n\n\n\nAs Meghan held back tears, Khan said the last thing he gave his son was Senator McCain’s book Why Courage Matters and that he gives it to new cadets at the University of Virginia ROTC program, with which he is deeply involved. And he said it is because of the kind of man that Senator McCain was.\n\n“Whenever I would take that book, he would sit across the table without asking what political venue I belonged to, what are my perspectives, what are my political views,” Khan said of the late senator. “He would try to, in his conversation, encourage me, hearten me.”\n\nKhan went on to say that it was the support of people like Senator McCain after that DNC speech that helped him and his family push through all of the negativity.\n\n“The example of Senator McCain, the encouragements of people like him, huddling with family, receiving encouraging letters from throughout the country,” Khan said. “Such examples elevate us as a nation. And that had been our source of strength. So for that, I am so grateful.”\n\nThe View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. on ABC.\n\nWatch what Meghan McCain had to say about President Trump's attacks on her late father:\n\n\nRead more from Yahoo Entertainment:\n\n\n \tMake TV great again: ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’s’ Trump-themed musical extravaganza\n \tKellyanne Conway ‘puff piece’ on
