García even told the council that a better way to lower violent crime would have been to allocate all of the $450,000 to buy more plate reader cameras. The police chief has shown to be a data-driven leader, and the council should have heeded his recommendation.

But if your police chief is advising against a certain approach, and there are well-documented concerns about that approach, why proceed? Instead of sinking money into questionable technology, the city should have examined other policy solutions that could be cheaper and more effective investments.
