3. Boston was the best NHL team after Jan. 9, the second half of the NHL season for the Oilers. Boston had a .798 points percentage in the second half, with the Oilers the next best at .780. In that same time period, Toronto was the 10th best team in the NHL with a .659 points percentage. Vegas was fifth at .698.
5. The Avs losing out to Seattle is, of course, huge for the Oilers. I’ve been writing all year that the one team that most scared me in the playoffs wasn’t Boston, it was the Avs with its superstar talent Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar. But, in the end, that wasn’t enough against Seattle with its strong team defence and hot goalie, Philipp Grubauer.
