Award ceremonies are typically reserved as a platform for artists to revisit their latest chart-dominating singles, yet decided to take on a more unexpected route. At the 2020 Brit Awards on Tuesday night , the London rapper shared an important message targeting racism and inequality with his performance of "Black."
Beginning the live rendition by sitting at a white piano, Dave rapped each bar with a near-tangible urgency as the piano displayed various news headlines, grueling images of war, the British flag, disenfranchised citizens behind prison bars and more. Dave, who rocked a cloud-patterned suit and was backed by an orchestra, was joined halfway through by another pianist as he stood to perform the remainder of the song. He received fairly loud cheers when he switched up the lyrics to call out Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex as well as spitting "prime ministers are racist.", released last March. The rapper is up for four awards, including song and album of the year. We'll add video of the performance once it's available.
