.Daya shared how coming out affected her career during the Emerging Artists panel at billboardpride's PrideSummit.

The Hollywood ReporterThe singer, who came out as bisexual via social media in September 2018, said her decision to come out after already being an established artist was questioned by many in the industry.

"I was discouraged from coming out because [they thought] I would lose those mainstream radio fans," Daya said. However, now that she has been out for nearly a year, Daya has found the experience of being an out queer artist eye-opening. "It’s opened me up to a whole new world of queer artists and producers that I’ve loved working with," Daya said."Executives and higher people at labels, producers, and songwriters – there just needs to be more queer visibility across the board," Daya said. "Not just with artists."
