When was the last time you tuned in to watch a beauty pageant? This episode of Deep Dive finds out how relevant they are.

The latest edition of Miss Universe Singapore was made more inclusive, with a single mother and a transgender woman as contestants. But how relevant are beauty pageants?

Steven Chia and Crispina Robert take a beauty deep dive with Angela Tay, managing director of ERM Singapore which organises Mrs Singapore World and Manhunt Singapore and Mrs Veronica Lee, this year's winner of Mrs Singapore World. Here's an excerpt from the conversation:Angela, maybe you want to weigh in on this concept of beauty and especially beauty pageants. In a way, it's still being judged according to a format.

It may seem superficial, but it was only after I joined the pageant, having gone through the training that journey of self-love, discovery, and uplifting my fellow finalists, right? It is more than just showing skin, because beauty, I think, in today's context, it's defined very differently. I feel like it's not just about a certain type of look.
