Sean 'Diddy' Combs has pleaded not guilty to a superseding indictment in a sex trafficking case, which includes allegations of forced labor and threats towards employees who didn't participate in the alleged scheme.
Sean ' Diddy ' Combs entered a not guilty plea on March 14, 2025, to a superseding indictment that expands on the accusations against the hip-hop mogul in a sex trafficking case. The new indictment alleges that Combs forced employees to work excessive hours and threatened punishment against those who didn't participate in the alleged two-decade-long sex trafficking scheme.
Combs, 55, appeared before US District Judge Arun Subramanian in Manhattan federal court wearing prison garb and sporting gray hair and a gray beard. He blew kisses to his mother and other family members in the courtroom audience as he was led out after the 45-minute hearing. Combs has been held in a Brooklyn jail since his September 2024 arrest. He previously pleaded not guilty to charges of racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution. Known throughout his career as Puff Daddy and P. Diddy, Combs founded Bad Boy Records and played a pivotal role in launching the careers of artists like Mary J. Blige, Faith Evans, Notorious B.I.G., and Usher in the 1990s and 2000s. Prosecutors from the Manhattan US Attorney's Office allege that Combs used his business empire, including his record label Bad Boy Entertainment, to sexually exploit women between 2004 and 2024. The indictment describes alleged 'freak offs,' recorded sexual performances involving women and male sex workers, sometimes transported across state lines. The new indictment doesn't add new charges but provides more detail about what prosecutors describe as 'forced labor' demanded by Combs in connection with the alleged 20-year racketeering conspiracy. It claims Combs and his associates 'maintained control' over some employees by forcing them to work long hours with limited sleep, using or threatening physical force, financial harm, psychological harm, and reputational damage. Combs' defense lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, maintains that his client never coerced anyone into sexual acts against their will and that the 'freak offs' were consensual. A potential point of contention in the case is a hotel surveillance video broadcast by CNN last year, showing Combs striking and dragging his former girlfriend, R&B singer Cassie Ventura. While the defense argues the video is not evidence of sex trafficking and that Combs and Ventura had a 'toxic, loving 11-year relationship,' the prosecution may seek to introduce it at trial. The judge suggested both sides work together to present the video in its correct sequence and speed to the jury. Jury selection is scheduled to begin on April 28, with opening statements set for May 12
