Tuesday March 1, through Thursday, March 3 the Disaster Assistance Center is open to the public.
The December 2021 and January 2022 winter storms snowballed and complicated enough lives in the Interior enabling Governor Dunleavy to declare them a disaster emergency, and now, the people affected are getting the help they need.
Jeremy Zidek, Public Information Officer with the State of Alaska’s Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management tells us more, “This was a really big event. Not only did it impact the Fairbanks area, but Delta Junction, all the way down to Yakutat and Southeast was really impacted, during this one period of time, a series of storms that hit the state very hard.”
Discussing the most common occurrences due to the storms, Zidek commented, “There’s a lot of ice damage, damage to roofs, heating systems, people had a lot of problems clearing their driveways. There’s a whole wide range of impacts that can take place during a winter storm, and we’ve really kind of heard a whole range of things.”
