Disney’s Wish is the studio’s 62nd animated film and there have been many announcements about the release date, cast, story details, and trailer. Wish is an upcoming children’s animated movie in the vein of Moana and Encanto, but it features a new animation style that hasn’t been seen before with Disney that combines the classic watercolor look of the two-dimensional films with the computer animation of the more recent movies.

Disney's Wish Confirmed Disney’s Wish was confirmed on September 9, 2022, during the D23 expo as one of 10 movies announced to arrive after Strange World. The annual event also announced Ariana DeBose as the star of Wish. Notably, 2023 is the 100-year celebration of the Walt Disney Animation Studio. Wish will be a pivotal movie for the studio not only in that it’s a tentpole animated film, but it also has the responsibility of being the keystone movie for 100 years of Disney animated film.

Chris Pine is cast as King Magnifico, the ruler of the Kingdom of Asha. The characters in Wish look similar to their real-life counterparts, and Pine’s Magnifico particularly resembles the electric blue-eyed actor. Pine has had numerous starring roles in acclaimed movies including Star Trek as Captain Kirk and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves as Edgin Darvis. Once again voicing an animal in an animated Disney movie is Alan Tudyk who plays Valentino the goat.
