Unions are more popular now than they have been in decades, with a significant majority of Americans supporting organized labor.

Miller is a local author, professor at San Diego City College, and vice president for the American Federation of Teachers, Local 1931. He lives in Golden Hill. The last few years have been full of optimism for organized labor.

The problem that unions have is not just, according to Nolan, the intense hostility of the corporate sector and the rich along with an “anti-worker labor law system” that makes organizing difficult, but also “a lazy, unimaginative union establishment” whose own organizing goals at the national level, if achieved, would keep the movement on track not to win the future but to lose more union density.
