Running out of money during retirement is a scary prospect. If you’re planning to retire at a young age, it might seem even scarier.

The workforce is “trending older and more educated,” family size continues to decrease, long-term prime-age workforce participation is dipping, they wrote. And it’s true that labor-force participation decreased for many years, but during recent gains in the labor market, prime-age labor-force participation has increased again, according to Washington, D.C.-based research group Brookings. The participation rate is now 82%.
