Dolly Parton's new children's book has hit number one on the bestsellers chart. The picture book tells the tale of Parton's pet pooch, who sets out for Nashville in search of country stardom
Written by Parton herself, with help from Erica S. Perl and illustrations by MacKenzie Haley, the book follows Parton’s French bulldog, Billy the Kid, who decides to head to Nashville to pursue his dream of becoming a country star. Along the way, he runs into some stiff competition in the form of some four-legged bullies who he must out-sing and out-perform at the “Battle of the Bow-Wows.”
Taking cues from Parton’s iconic discography , Billy must turn to his favorite songs — including “Jowlene” and “I Will Pawlways Love You,” natch — to “regain self-confidence and be the star he always knew he could be.” Publisher Penguin Workshop says the picture book is all about “standing up to people who put you down and finding the drive to achieve your dreams.”
