UPDATE: A series of explosions across Afghanistan has killed several people and wounded scores more, according to police and hospital officials
The blasts took place two days after deadly explosions targeting a school in a Shia Hazara neighbourhood of Kabul.
A powerful blast in a Shia mosque killed at least 10 worshippers and injured another 40 on Thursday, according to a hospital official. Preliminary reports had suggested at least five deaths. "There are at least 25 casualties," Taliban official Zabihullah Noorani, head of Balkh province's information and culture department, had said earlier.Najeebullah Sahel, from the provincial health authority, feared that the casualties could increase.
Kabul police spokesperson Khalid Zadran said in a tweet that explosives went off in the median strip of a road in a mostly Shia neighbourhood.Two days ago, multiple explosions targeting educational institutions killed at least six people — mostly children — and wounded 17 others in a Shia Hazara neighbourhood in Kabul.
