Dozens of motorists were stuck on I-80 on Dec. 31, 2022 due to a winter storm hitting the Tahoe area.are slowly reopening Sunday, but CHP warns driving conditions are still difficult — and highways could close again if more cars get stuck or spin out.
On Saturday, as an atmospheric river parked over Northern California, rain and snow made for dangerous roadways in the Sierra., four of its main routes saw complete or partial closures: I-80, Highway 50, Highway 49 and Route 89. "Driving conditions are dangerous and treacherous, travel is not advised," CHP's Truckee division posted Saturday night."There are dozens and dozens of vehicles stuck on the freeway and county roads, and we are responding to calls as quickly as possible."
