A young schoolgirl was caught on camera nearly getting hit by a car at a zebra crossing.
AaronIn the video, a girl in a school uniform can be seen crossing the zebra crossing as another younger-looking girl in the same attire runs behind her and tries to do the same.
However, the latter is forced to come to a halt as an oncoming car drives past the zebra crossing without stopping, narrowly avoiding an accident. It is unclear if the two students know each other."I feel that the driver should have slowed down and been alert of any pedestrians when approaching the zebra crossing. It was not a blind spot.
"The worst thing is the the driver didn't seem to realise he was in the wrong and could still continue driving off instead of letting the girl cross first., all motorists are required to stop their vehicles at pedestrian crossings in order to give way to"any pedestrian, cyclist, mobility vehicle user or personal mobility device rider who is either crossing or is starting to cross the intersection or junction".
When approaching a pedestrian crossing, they must"proceed only at such speed as will enable him to stop his vehicle before reaching the crossing". Aaron added:"This incident is a reminder to all parents not to let their young kids cross the road by themselves. There are too many reckless drivers these days."
