The sentencing will finally be determined, two years after the sister of the late Gabe Grunewald tragically died.
In December 2021, 47-year-old Melinda Dotray was charged with several felonies including one count of second-degree manslaughter, two counts of criminal vehicular homicide, and one count of fifth-degree drug possession. Court documents show that last week, Dotray pleaded guilty to the criminal vehicular homicide charge, and her trial was scheduled to begin on Monday.at age 32.
On August 14, 2021, Dotray hit Anderson twice with her truck. She died at Regions Hospital that night. Anderson’s father, Kim Anderson, toldthat Anderson, who was 29 years old, was on her way to the soccer fields at the University of Minnesota to watch her boyfriend coach a match when she was hit. Dotray hit a parked car and then Anderson, which sent both vehicles and Anderson into a chain-link fence. The driver then made a U-turn and ran over Anderson again. It was later determined by blood sample that Dotray had amphetamine, methamphetamine, fentanyl, and norfentanyl in her system. Meth was also found in the truck’s glove box. The sentencing is set for December 13. The maximum sentence for criminal vehicular homicide is 10 years in prison and/or a $20,000 fine.
