Putin was wrong. There are numerous reasons for this misstep, but the biggest factor, according to observers, is that Russia was stuck in a World War II mindset, with many of its weapons systems obsolete in modern warfare. The country was not prepared for a protracted conflict, and it has been plagued by internal graft and misinformation.
