- El lateral Miguel Layún, único mexicano en jugar en las tres principales ligas europeas, anunció este domingo que tras finalizar su participación en el torneo Apertura 2023 del fútbol de su país con las Águilas del América se retirará del fútbol profesional.
'Hoy anuncio que es mi último torneo y les agradezco a todos ustedes por estos 17 años de carrera', explicó el mundialista por México en Brasil 2014 y Rusia 2018, en un video publicado en su cuenta de Instagram. Layún, de 35 años, ha sido el único futbolista mexicano en militar en las ligas de Inglaterra, España e Italia, consideradas las tres principales del balompié de Europa.
En 2009 fue fichado por el Atalanta, con el que participó en dos duelos en la liga italiana. Además de estos clubes europeos, Layún también perteneció al Oporto portugués, con el cual estuvo tres campañas entre 2015 y 2018, y conquistó el título del campeonato local en la temporada 2017-2018.
