Employee charged with sexually assaulting resident of Arlington Hts. senior home
Filipe De-Gyves, 67, is charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse. If convicted of the most serious charge, he could face up to 30 years in prison.
According to police, a certified nursing assistant was passing by the woman's room on May 20, when she heard a cry for help. The CNA entered the room and saw the defendant engaging in a sexual act with the woman, who has dementia and was laying in her bed, prosecutors said. The CNA yelled at De-Gyves and began filming him with her cellphone, prosecutors said. De-Gyves reportedly begged her not to report the incident, but the CNA told her supervisors who called Arlington Heights police, prosecutors said.
Police say the defendant left the facility as officers arrived. They arrested him a few hours later at his home.A spokeswoman for the Lutheran Home stated that the facility is"fully cooperating with the Arlington Heights Police Department" and declined additional comment, citing the active investigation and respect for the privacy of the resident involved.
Cook County Judge Ellen Mandeltort ordered De-Gyves on house arrest if he posts bail. She also ordered that he have no contact with the woman or elderly patients, and ordered him to stay away from any health care facility.
