For now, however, he is leaning into the house-bound hand that life has dealt us all. “I’m just trying to slow down, and be aware of the moment,” he says.
When I first started working on my garden, I didn't really know the difference between an annual and a perennial! I also didn’t know the kind of soil I had, which is important to be aware of. I have heavy clay soil which is not going to work with, say, Mediterranean plants like lavender. It’s also very hard to dig and it gets waterlogged, so plants that don't like to sit in water don't like it. Getting a sense of the soil you’re working with is a great place to start.
