Hannah Lavon believes mismatched socks can make the world a friendlier place. Her company, Pals Socks, aims to teach children the beauty of friendship between two people who are different.
For Lavon, Pals is more than a business; it's a lifestyle. The socks, she explains, are an easy and fun way to teach kids about acceptance and make them excited to find friends who are not just like them. Parents regularly email to thank Pals for helping them talk to their kids about differences. “It inspires dialogue, curiosity, and conversation,” she says.
Lavon’s identity as a member of the LGBTQ community has been an important factor in her drive to grow the company. “Because I’m extra sensitive to discrimination,” she says, “It definitely has played a large role in why I’m passionate about inspiring future adults and decision makers to be more open-minded and have more friends that aren’t just like them. I really do think if more people had that mindset, the world would be a better place to live.
