Facing full-court pressure from critics, New York City Mayor Eric Adams Adams on Friday emphasized that he was simply closing a loophole from the last administration, insisting that it doesn’t set up a dangerous double standard — as critics have said
Across the street from the arena, a manager at SNIPES Shoes — where Irving's sneaker is a hot seller — was not happy with the new arrangement. Many are considering the new changes a double standard in the city's vaccination policy, claiming there are different rules for wealthy athletes and performers, and another set of rules for everyone else. NBC New York's Adam Harding reports.
In response to her comments, the mayor said that"there are things the City Council speaker will do that I will disagree with, but she has a role in city council, I have a role as mayor." There are many critics of Mayor Eric Adams' move to end the city's vaccine mandate for professional athletes and performers, saying millionaire athletes are getting a pass while workers lost their livelihoods over the same issue. NBC New York's Gilma Avalos reports.
"I'm not making this decision loosely or haphazardly," Adams said."The city has to function. Some will boo us, others will cheer us -- that is not only a game of baseball but that's the game of life and we have to be on the field in order to win."
