Escondido police release video of December shootout that left suspect dead, officer injured [Breaking]
Video of a shoot-out that left a homicide suspect dead and a police officer injured was released by the Escondido Police Department on Tuesday.
The suspect who was killed, Roberto Salgado Cazares, was wanted in connection with a Vista homicide that left a 42-year-old man dead, police said.The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department put out a wanted bulletin to local law enforcement, which included a description of the Chevrolet Silverado that Salgado was driving and information that he was considered armed and dangerous.
Police deployed spike strips that took out three of the trucks’ tires, but the vehicle didn’t come to a stop until officer’s determined it was equipped with the in-vehicle security system OnStar, police said. Upon request, the company remotely disabled the truck. Footage of the incident shows officers returning fire. A bullet grazed one officer, later identified as Danny Armenta, on the left side of the chest. Armenta can be heard in body-camera video repeatedly saying, “I’m hit,” and officers can be seen rushing to his aid. He has since made a full recovery, police said.
