Exclusive: Secret Invasion stars Olivia Colman and Samuel L. Jackson discuss the Marvel Comics history of Falsworth and the planning of Marvel.
Secret Invasion stars Olivia Colman and Samuel L. Jackson discuss the potential ties between her character, Sonya Falsworth, and Marvel hero Union Jack. In Marvel Comics, James Montgomery Falsworth is the first Union Jack and is active during World War I and World War II. And while the hero Union Jack seemingly hasn't been introduced as of yet, one of Captain America's Howling Commandos was James Montgomery Falsworth in Captain America: The First Avenger.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Screen Rant spoke with Colman and Jackson about Secret Invasion and how it can connect to other Marvel stories. Colman seemed surprised to learn about the importance of the Falsworth name in Marvel Comics.
Samuel L. Jackson: Could be your dad, could be your uncle, could be any of those people. Could be your brother.Samuel L. Jackson: I don't know who he is. I don't know the lineage part of it, but I guarantee you somebody in that Marvel office can tell you that. They came up with that name for a reason.Samuel L. Jackson: Everything is planned.
Could Secret Invasion's Sonya Falsworth Set Up The MCU's Union Jack? Jackson making it a point to say Marvel chose the Falsworth name for a reason opens a ton of possibilities, especially because Sonya Falsworth was created for the Secret Invasion series. Sonya Falsworth is likely a descendant of Captain America: The First Avenger's James Montgomery Falsworth, which could come into play.
Although the plans are unclear and Colman seemed genuinely surprised and delighted to learn this, Jackson saying "they came up with that name for a reason" points to a larger plan both for Sonya and the Falsworth name as a whole. Secret Invasion could be the perfect opportunity to introduce a new hero or heroes, especially if they are trusted by Sonya, who most likely doesn't trust easily.
