Legendary Phillies manager Charlie Manuel suffered a stroke while undergoing a medical procedure in Florida on Saturday, the team announced.“The next 24 hours will be crucial to his recovery, and Charlie’s family asks that you keep him in your thoughts and prayers at this time,”It was not immediately clear what medical procedure Manuel, 79, was undergoing.
Manuel has battled various health issues in his life, suffering from a heart attack, infected colon and kidney cancer. Manuel played six seasons in the majors with the Minnesota Twins and Los Angeles Dodgers from 1969-75, but became most known for his successful managerial stints in Cleveland and Philadelphia.He finished his career with a 1,000-826 record, guiding the Phillies to a 2008 World Series title and 2009 National League pennant.
