Ex-UFC star Phil Baroni arrested for allegedly murdering girlfriend in Mexico
A woman was found dead in San Fernando on Sunday, the prosecutor's office in the Pacific coast state of Nayarit said. Mexican outlet Tribuna De La Bahia reported that the woman, identified as Baroni's girlfriend, was found naked and under a sheet, with bruises and markings all over her face and body.Baroni reportedly contacted police, telling them he got into a drunken argument with his girlfriend.
The former UFC fighter said he eventually helped her out of the tub and wrapped her in a blanket in bed before heading out to pick up cigarettes and beer. He said when he got back, he assumed she was sleeping.Baroni was arrested and is currently behind bars. It is unclear if he had legal representation. The Associated Press reported that an initial hearing would be held on Monday.
