The number of teens who said they're trans has nearly doubled just in the last year, when comparing the CDC's numbers to a Researchers from UCLA's Williams Institute, using data from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, the Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System, and advanced statistical modeling, found only 1.4% of teens identified as transgender in 2022, compared to the 3.3% of transgender teens in 2023.According to the CDC study, mental health is a major issue for transgender teens.
Approximately 26% of transgender and questioning students attempted suicide in the past year compared with 5% of cisgender male and 11% of cisgender female students. The report also found around 40% of trans and questioning students were bullied at school, and the majority experienced persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness, which is a clear marker for depression.Transgender students had a higher prevalence of experiencing unstable housing in the past 30 days than questioning , cisgender male , and cisgender female students .
