Hundreds of families turned out in full winter gear at the Tanana Valley State Fairgrounds for the Fall Festival.
Published: Oct. 9, 2023 at 9:28 AM AKDTFAIRBANKS, Alaska - It may not look like fall outside anymore, but the recent snowfall did not deter fun-seekers at the Fall Festival this past Saturday afternoon.
Hundreds of families turned out in full winter gear and trudged through several inches of snow at the Tanana Valley State Fairgrounds to partake in numerous activities at the second annual fun-filled event, the Fall Festival. Both kids and adults enjoyed meeting the horses and ponies, and climbing aboard to ride through the snowy fields. The Pumpkin Patch, inside the Kiwanis Building, offered an array of harvest-ready pumpkins and the opportunity to pick out the perfect one, large or small, for carving, decorating, or making into pie.
Additional activities included free hay rides, featuring tractors pulling trailers loaded up with hay bales, that circled around the grounds all through the event. Attendees also got the opportunity to meet their favorite animals at the petting zoo and for any kids looking for a bit more of a thrill, the swing ride from the A1 Midway was available to ride.
A wide variety of vendors offered food and snacks, from tried and true favorites like hot dogs and cotton candy to festive Italian sodas and baked goods. Steaming cups of hot chocolate and cider provided welcome warmth to many chilled fingers. Vendor stands also boasted raffles, contests, and games. Many of these vendors were fundraising for scout troops, school sports teams, and similar causes.
