There had been speculation the former North Down MP would replace Sorcha Eastwood as an MLA
Alliance MP Sorcha Eastwood has said defeated party colleague Stephen Farry will not take her Stormont seat.
However, in a night of mixed results for the cross-community party, Ms Eastwood became the first non-unionist to be elected to serve in Lagan Valley – previously a DUP stronghold held by former party leader Sir Jeffrey Donaldson. The results led to speculation that Mr Farry could be moved to replace Ms Eastwood as an MLA for Lagan Valley.
She said: “We are a professional party. We run things through a process – that is exactly what we are going to be doing.“Stephen is a great loss. Not just to Alliance, not just to Westminster but to Northern Ireland.
