Operation Medusa took down Snake, a malware built by Russian intelligence unit to infiltrate high-value targets around the world.

Russian malware, built by an FSB cyber-intelligence unit, compromised hundreds of computers around the world until it was disrupted by U.S. and international law enforcement earlier this week, the Justice Department said.Federal law enforcement built software that would remove the malware and neutralize the computers behind it, according to federal charging documents.

The software was able to record every keystroke a victim made, a capacity known as keylogging, and send it back to Turla's control center. "We will continue to strengthen our collective defenses against the Russian regime's destabilizing efforts to undermine the security of the United States and our allies," Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a statement.
