By the time Pennsylvania’s crucial Senate contest went to Democratic Lt. Gov. John Fetterman over Trump-backed celebrity doctor Mehmet Oz, Democrats had already won enough bellwether races to deflate GOP dreams of a red tsunami. The night shaped up early as a disappointment for Republicans who’d worked to engineer a massive power shift.
In Virginia, moderate Rep. Abigail Spanberger, a former CIA officer, eked out a narrow win over a Latina conservative, Yesli Vega, promoted by Sen. Ted Cruz and a parade of GOP luminaries.to the party that holds the White House. The lower the president’s approval ratings, the worse the outcome. Biden’s has hovered close to 40%. Dozens of House seats typically shift when a president’s support is so anemic.
Both won reelection. The GOP nominee won the third district, tailored by the Legislature to favor their nominee.
