Former President Donald Trump is skipping the debate, but the eight GOP hopefuls taking the stage are seeking a breakout moment.
Eight contenders for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination will take the stage Wednesday in Milwaukee for their first primary debate. But the shadow of Donald Trump, who is skipping the debate, will loom large over the event.
The challenge for the the eight candidates will be to grab some of the spotlight and chip away support from Trump and each other. The two-hour debate at the Fiserv Forum will start at 9 p.m. ET and be moderated by Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum of Fox News. Trump is expected to provide his own counterprogramming – a pre-recorded interview with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson set to air at 9 p.m. as well.
