MLA Betty Nippi-Albright has issued a call to the provincial government to validate employees who have self-declared as Indigenous.

Nippi-Albright wants the provincial government to set a standard that does more. She’s called for action to verify identity of all existing government employees, not just those within designated Indigenous-held positions, who have self-identified as Indigenous, which is the current process in place.

“Do we like it? No. Is it hard? No,” she said, of being asked for status cards. “But if we’re not hiding anything, then we’ll produce it.”Article content “Part of the puzzle here is human rights, and what you can and you can’t ask people.
