The first crew to arrive made its way through heavy brush to find a passenger vehicle on its roof.KITSAP COUNTY, Wash. — Five people were taken to hospitals after their vehicle plummeted down an embankment in the Southworth area of unincorporated Kitsap County Friday night.

South Kitsap Fire & Rescue said on Twitter that crews were dispatched to the area of Banner Road and Southworth Drive, west of the Southworth Ferry Terminal, for a report of a vehicle 40 to 50 feet down an embankment. The first crew to arrive at the crash scene made its way through heavy brush to find a passenger vehicle on its roof and five people who had gotten out of the vehicle on their own.

Because of the number of people hurt and the anticipated difficulty of getting the victims up to the road from the steep slope, first responders upgraded the response to a multi-casualty incident to summon more resources. Once the victims were brought up to the road, four were taken to a Tacoma hospital, and one was taken to St. Michael Medical Center in Silverdale.
