In the Grand Canyon State, benefits are distributed during the first 13 days of a month. The date they are received is based on the first letter of an eligible beneficiary's last name, according to the Arizona Department of Economic Security. A household of eight can receive a maximum payment of $1,691, and a household of four is allotted a maximum of $939. Additionally, a household of one receives up to $281. SNAP adds up to $211 for each additional member in an Arizona household.Monthly benefits for eligible SNAP recipients can be accessed through a Nutrition Assistance electronic benefits transfer card, which can be swiped like a debit card at checkout in most grocery stores, convenience stores, and participating farmers markets.
Nutrition Assistance benefits can be used to buy various food items, such as bread, meat, and dairy products. However, the card cannot be used to buy nonfood items, including alcohol and cigarettes.Roughly 825,700 Arizona residents participate in SNAP, accounting for 11% of the state's population, according to the most recent data compiled by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. About 41,206,900 people, or 12% of the national population, receive food stamps as of fiscal 2022.
